How To Design And Select Rack Uprights

Rack is an important carrier to improve the efficiency of warehouse use and enhance the efficiency of warehouse access, which has been more and more widely used in all walks of life. Removable racks, also known as combined racks, the store height can be adjusted according to the pitch, so that the store space can be adjusted arbitrarily with the size of the goods placed, increasing the flexibility of inventory, and has the advantages of small component size, high warehouse utilization, easy operation, interchangeable assembly and short installation cycle, etc., become goods. The rack upright is the ultimate force supporting component of the detachable rack, and its design is the hub of the whole rack system, which is directly related to the safety of the structure and the economy of use. The assembled racks are mainly composed of pillars and beams and other basic parts, such as angle guards, ground angles, braces, barriers, laminates (steel or wood) and other accessories. The upright is the main force supporting part of the rack, and the load capacity can reach up to 21 tons. Then, how to design and select the rack uprights?

 

The analysis, calculation and practice have proved that the physical properties of the materials used in the rack pillars, the design and manufacture accuracy of the dies are the main factors affecting the loading capacity and stability of the rack pillars, and the variation of the size of the rack holes has a direct impact on the stability of the racks. The local thinning of the rack material section has no effect on the rack stability.

 

Rack uprights are basically rolled from thin steel plates. The section of rack uprights bends many times without causing local instability. However, with the continuous enrichment of the cross-section of rack pillars and the application of high-strength steel, the compression rack uprights develop toward light-weight and thin-walled direction, which is easy to cause the overall instability of rack uprights. Therefore, the stability of the upright members of the pressurized racks is more important.

 

Because the upright is the main force component of the rack, the structure shape is relatively complex, and most of them use cold-formed thin-walled steel (there is a certain residual processing stress), the load situation is more complex, especially in high-rise racks, the number of stores, large load, so that the design of the rack upright is cumbersome, complex checking, the value of the combination.

 

There are many hook holes and round holes on the front of the rack uprights, which are used to connect the hooks of the rack beams and install safety pins. Rack pass is usually inverted octagonal, diamond or inverted trapezoidal, so that the rack upright of the long hole and vertical direction has a small angle. After the hook of the cross beam of the rack is hooked up, it is automatically locked under the gravity of the cross beam of the rack and the goods, and the cross beam hook is in face contact with the long holes of the upright of the rack, and the stress state is better, so as to ensure that the rack is more stable and reliable in use. However, the opening of hook holes has a great influence on the bearing capacity of the uprights. The bearing capacity after the opening is 70% ~ 95% of the bearing capacity when the opening is not, and it has a greater impact on the small size of the rack uprights. Therefore, on the premise of meeting the load-bearing capacity of cross-beam hooks, the size and number of upright hook holes should be reduced as much as possible to enhance the overall load-bearing capacity of the racks.

 

In terms of cross-section, there are many kinds of cross-section shapes of rack uprights, but in terms of current market share, basically the mainstream profile is still the basic "_" type, some of which are relatively simple in structure, mainly used for lightweight racks; the structure of multi-roll rolling is relatively complex, processing technology is relatively complex, mainly used in Heavy duty rack. Other shapes derived from the basic form mainly increase bending at longer edges to enhance the stiffness and stability of rack uprights. In the detailed design, besides the strength, stiffness and structural stability of the rack, the influence of the detailed forming process on the pass and the pre-processing of the blank on the rack quality, such as the influence of pre-punching and bending deformation on the rack quality without the cold-bending roll line, should also be considered.
