The area of racks and cargo stacks in warehouses is the storage area or the area of use, and the other is the non-storage area. We should expand the storage area and reduce the non-storage area. The non-storage area includes aisles, wall spacing, receiving and shipping area, staff office and so on.
The aisles in the warehouse can be divided into transport channels (main aisles), operation channels (auxiliary channels) and inspection channels. The transport channel is used for loading and unloading equipment in the warehouse. Its width depends mainly on the size of the loading and unloading equipment and the size of the unit load. The width of the transport channel is generally 1.5-3 meters. If forklift is used, the width of the channel can be calculated. When the width of the unit load is not too large, the following formula can be used:
A - Channel width
P - The lateral turning radius of the forklift truck
D- The distance between the center lines of the driving shaft of the cargoes to the forklift
L - The length of the goods
C - The operating allowance of the turning wheel gliding
The operation channel is an aisle for operators to access goods. The width depends on the way of operation and the size of the goods. When only one person in the channel operates, the width can be calculated on following.
a - the width of the operating channel
B - The body thickness of the worker
L - The maximum length of the goods
C -- Activity allowance of worker
The inspection channel is for the warehouse manager to check the quantity and quality of the inventory. The width of the channel is 0.5 meters as long as the inspector is free to pass.
2. Wall spacing
The function of the wall spacing is to keep the goods and shelves with the storage wall to keep a certain distance, to avoid the effects of the goods under the external temperature and humidity, and also to be used as the inspection channel and the operation channel. The width of the wall is about 0.5 meters, and the width of the wall should be doubled when it is used as the working channel.
3. The receiving and shipping area
The receiving and shipping area is the land for temporary storage of goods for delivery. The location of the receiving and shipping area should be close to the warehouse and transportation aisle. It can be located at both ends of the warehouse or in a moderate position, and should not be disturbed by the receiving and shipping. The size of the area of the receiving and shipping area should be determined according to the size of the batch number, the number of items, the quantity of the supplier and the user, the efficiency of the receiving and shipping operation, the equipment situation of the warehouse, the balance of the receiving and shipping area, the mode of delivery and so on.
4. Staff office
Warehouse management personnel need a certain office location. It can be located in the warehouse or outside. In general, the office of a manager is unreasonable in the warehouse, especially when it is separated into a separate room. It is neither economical nor safe. So the office is best located outside the warehouse.
